The owners of a new, ultraluxury hotel maintain an air of confidence in the face of adversity. The 234-room Pangu Plaza, which opened in December, charges as much as $17,750 a night for a suite. The sushi bar, where the cheapest lunch special is $265, cooks its rice in mineral water flown in from Japan. The walls in the hotel are covered with silk; the floors with marble—Italian, of course.

LEISURE London room rates are at 2005 levels as the recession wreaks havoc with travel plans and hotels face record declines, PricewaterhouseCoopers will say today. The capital faces a 41.2 per cent decline to 100 per room this year and a drop in occupancy to 69 per cent, the lowest since 1992.

New Hotel Hopes To Beat The Odds

RIDGE MANOR - The plans for a sparkling new Holiday Inn Express were under way two years ago and construction began less than a year later. The east end of Hernando County had Interstate 75 and little else, but it seemed like a prime location for a new cluster of hotels. Owner Ram Reddy was thrilled with the investment and he looked forward to cashing in on the spurt of development, businesses and corporate travelers.
